Jesse Keeler MSTRKRFT Mortal Kombat soundtrack

Death From Above 1979 reunited just last week (and subsequently caused a riot at SXSW), and bassist Jesse Keeler is in the news again for producing the soundtrack to the upcoming Mortal Kombat reboot game.  The soundtrack is to be released April 4, with the game coming out for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on April 19.

This might sound puzzling, but actually makes perfect sense when you consider Keeler’s other musical venture MSTRKRFT, which is a dance-punk/electro house duo specializing in remixes.  And let’s be honest, one of our fondest memories of the original Mortal Kombat game and movie was the bad-ass techno remix of the theme.  Though it sounds like a cool, smart, match made in heaven, I’d like to think that he really only got the job due to his affinity for using “K”s in place of “C”s at the beginning of words.  Ed Boon and John Tobias love that krap.

After the cut, I’ve got the original techno theme by The Immortals, a sampling of the new soundtrack, and a guy dressed up as Scorpion playing the theme on an accordion.  I shouldn’t have to explain why I’m posting that last one.
