COLDPLAY TAPPED FOR OLYMPICS ANTHEM, OPENING CEREMONY

Keep that Olympic torch away from "The Tongue Snuffer."

Coldplay has reportedly been tapped to record the official anthem of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.  They’d then perform the song at the opening ceremony, Music-News.com reports.  A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper:

“Coldplay are the biggest stadium rockers in Britain today and their style of anthemic music would be perfect for the Olympics.  It needs to be something inspirational.  The hope is that they would perform at the opening ceremony, as well as produce a recording of the track, which could help fund good causes in British sport.”

It is not presently clear if Coldplay are to write the track as well as perform it, or if it will be penned by another songwriter.  The Olympic opening ceremony will take place on July 27, 2012, and will be overseen by ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ director Danny Boyle.  Others singers in the running to appear include Joss Stone, rockers Muse, and Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn.  [via Music-News.com]

Nice try, London…Thanks for comin’ out.  The only way you can even come close to topping 2008’s opening ceremony in Beijing is to attempt a live recreation of The Simpsons’ debauchery depicted in that ugly ass logo of yours

I wish I could take credit for this. God bless you, internet.
